Construction input prices rose 2.6% in May and are now nearly 10% higher year over year, according to recent Producer Price Index data. The increase continues to be driven by energy costs and price volatility in key materials such as steel, copper, and other tariff-affected inputs.

Energy prices showed mixed movement, with crude oil and unprocessed energy materials increasing, while natural gas prices declined.

For contractors, continued material inflation remains a key concern as rising costs place pressure on project budgets and long-term profit margins. While demand in the construction sector remains steady, ongoing price instability highlights the importance of strong estimating, pricing strategies, and cost controls.

Industry analysts note that while business confidence remains positive, sustained material cost increases and high borrowing costs could eventually impact profitability if trends continue. Click here to read more.

Our recent Gas Regulator Training was a full house and a strong reminder of just how much demand there is for hands-on, real-world technical education in our industry. Attendees gathered for an evening focused on gas regulators, pressure control, installation practices, and troubleshooting in field conditions.

We were joined by SWFL PHCC President Peter Bogacz, who helped kick off the evening and support our growing training efforts.

One of the highlights of the night was recognizing attendees who went the extra mile—literally. A special shoutout goes to our newest member from Ocala, George Shotwell, President of AM PM PLUMBING INC, who traveled approximately 2.5 hours to attend and earned the Farthest Distance Award for the evening.

We also had a memorable moment recognizing the depth of experience in the room. Ron Benash brought over 40 years of industry knowledge as one of our speakers, and Ronnie Wolf, Wolf Plumbing & Construction contributed more than 45 years of experience in the field. Together with other seasoned professionals in attendance, the room represented nearly a century of combined hands-on expertise—an incredible reminder of the knowledge base that continues to strengthen our industry.

A special thank you to Sunbelt Marketing for sponsoring and supporting this training, and to our instructors Sammy Lynch, Ron Benash, and Jordan Taylor for delivering practical insight technicians can immediately apply on the job.

As always, it was great to see contractors, technicians, and apprentices sharing the same space—learning, networking, and strengthening the future of the industry together.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success.

Missed this session? Save the Date! A second Gas 101 & Gas Regulator 101 Training session is planned for Thursday, November 19, 2026. More details coming soon.

Hydronic heating and cooling systems continue to evolve as demand grows for energy-efficient and sustainable comfort solutions.

New technologies like air-to-water heat pumps, smarter controls, and low-impact refrigerants are helping improve system performance while reducing energy consumption and environmental impact. Many modern systems now offer app-based controls, predictive maintenance features, and integration with building management systems for greater efficiency and easier service.

As building codes and consumer expectations continue shifting toward greener solutions, hydronic systems are becoming an increasingly attractive option for both residential and commercial applications.

For contractors, staying informed on these emerging technologies will be key to remaining competitive in the future of HVAC and plumbing. Click here to read more.

Summer brings plenty of outdoor projects, from installing fences and pools to refreshing landscaping and removing trees. Before breaking ground, homeowners and contractors are reminded that underground utility lines may be closer to the surface than expected.

Sunshine 811 recently highlighted the importance of safe digging, noting that Florida law requires contacting 811 at least two business days before excavation begins. Taking this simple step can help prevent costly damage, service interruptions, and serious safety hazards.

Whether you're installing a mailbox, planting trees, or taking on a major backyard renovation, taking a few extra steps before digging can help keep your project on track and your community safe. Click here to read more.
