Government & Industry Affairs Committee


COMMITTEE OBJECTIVE:

To enhance the visibility, credibility, and influence of SWFL PHCC by building meaningful relationships with building officials, inspectors, and community stakeholders, while providing a structured and responsive approach to addressing industry challenges and supporting effective communication.

COMMITTEE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with building officials, inspectors, and local government representatives
  • Represent SWFL PHCC at industry meetings, events, and community functions as needed
  • Serve as a visible and professional presence within the industry

Issue Identification & Response

  • Act as a point of contact for members experiencing challenges related to permitting, inspections, or code enforcement
  • Respond to reported issues in a timely manner and gather relevant information
  • Work collaboratively with appropriate parties to help clarify concerns and seek resolution

Liaison & Communication

  • Serve as a communication bridge between SWFL PHCC members and industry stakeholders
  • Provide clear, accurate, and constructive feedback to the Board regarding recurring issues or trends
  • Promote open dialogue to encourage consistency and understanding across the industry

Proactive Relationship Building

  • Coordinate and participate in regular outreach efforts, such as meetings or roundtables with building departments and officials
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration, education, and improved communication between contractors and regulators

Representation of PHCC

  • Uphold and represent the mission, values, and professional standards of SWFL PHCC at all times
  • Ensure all interactions reflect positively on the association and its membership

Reporting & Accountability

  • Provide updates to the Board on committee activities, stakeholder interactions, and issue outcomes
  • Track and report on key issues, resolutions, and ongoing concerns affecting members

FOUNDERS COMMITTEE - TRADE HIGH SCHOOL CONCEPT

COMMITTEE OBJECTIVE:

The objective of the Founders Committee is to develop and advance a scalable, sustainable trade-focused high school model that integrates core academic education with hands-on instruction in skilled trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, welding, and related disciplines.

This initiative is designed to create a structured pipeline of pre-apprentices and future apprentices, supporting the long-term workforce needs of the local construction and mechanical trades industries.

The Committee will evaluate feasibility, define the program framework, and establish a strategic roadmap for launching a school that begins with a ninth-grade cohort and expands annually, growing alongside its student base.

COMMITTEE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

The Founders Committee will serve as the primary working group responsible for research, planning, and early-stage development of the Trade High School concept. Responsibilities include:

1. Program Development & Structure

  • Define the educational model, integrating core academic requirements with trade-based curriculum.
  • Identify priority trade disciplines (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, welding, etc.).
  • Outline a phased growth model beginning with ninth grade and expanding year over year.
  • Explore partnerships for apprenticeship alignment and dual-enrollment opportunities.

2. Feasibility & Planning

  • Assess potential locations, facilities, and space requirements.
  • Identify regulatory requirements, including school accreditation and state/local education guidelines.
  • Evaluate staffing needs, including instructors, administrators, and trade professionals.
  • Research similar models and best practices from other trade-focused schools.

3. Industry & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with industry partners, including SWFL PHCC, MACCA, and other trade organizations.
  • Engage local contractors, business leaders, and workforce development groups for input and support.
  • Build relationships with school districts, technical colleges, and training providers.

4. Funding & Grant Strategy

  • Identify potential funding sources, including grants, sponsorships, and public/private partnerships.
  • Assist in the development of a grant strategy and supporting documentation.
  • Explore opportunities for industry investment and equipment donations.

5. Governance & Organizational Framework

  • Recommend a governance structure for the school (e.g., charter, public-private partnership, etc.).
  • Define roles and responsibilities for founding members and advisory participants.
  • Establish initial policies and guiding principles.

6. Implementation Roadmap

  • Develop a phased timeline for planning, approval, and launch.
  • Identify key milestones, deliverables, and decision points.
  • Outline initial enrollment targets and recruitment strategies.

7. Reporting & Communication

  • Provide regular updates to SWFL PHCC leadership and partner organizations.
  • Document findings, recommendations, and progress.
  • Support the development of presentation materials for stakeholders, funders, and community outreach.
